ADDITIONAL $2.6 MILLION SUPPORT PACKAGE TO HELP LAWYERS PREPARE FOR THE FUTURE

This is the 4th support package Singapore Academy of Law has provided since 2020

SINGAPORE, 18 AUGUST 2021 –  Singapore Academy of Law (“SAL”) members will get additional help totalling $2.6 million in the form of free online courses, access to digital publications and waiver of subscriptions to LawNet, Singapore’s most-used legal research site.

The latest support package, which was disbursed from 16 August, is the fourth that SAL has rolled out since the start of Covid-19. Since 2020, SAL has pledged a total of $6.8 million to support members, including the $2.6 million sum announced today.

Termed the “Get Future Ready” programme, the latest package is designed to equip members with learning and development resources to help them emerge stronger in a COVID-19 endemic world. Said Mr Rama Tiwari, Chief Executive of SAL, “We have been hard at work re-imagining the tools and resources required by our members to emerge stronger. Members demand greater digitisation of legal resources and learning tools. They also demand greater regional legal resources to allow them to access and understand markets beyond Singapore. Over the course of the next few months we will be rolling out online legal tools and resources to help members emerge stronger.”

The package includes:

1.    LIFTED – LINKEDIN LEARNING: More than 5,000 access passes (worth $400 each) to the online learning platform will be given out. These passes, which will be valid for one year, was sent to eligible members[1] from 16 August. More than 800 members have signed up in the first two days alone. The passes will allow members to access on-demand learning programmes and curated video courses that are eligible for private Continuing Professional Development (CPD) points. All practising lawyers are required to obtain a set number of CPD points every year.

LinkedIn welcomed the collaboration with SAL. Mr Frank Koo, Head of Asia, Talent and Learning Solutions at the organisation, said, “LinkedIn is pleased to partner with SAL as they help legal professionals learn and cultivate the skills they need to progress in their careers, through our LinkedIn Learning platform. On-demand learning is especially useful for time-strapped workers seeking to strengthen their skills, build their networks, and access career opportunities.”

2.    ACADEMY LIBRARY: All eligible members[2] will enjoy complimentary access (worth $3,190) to the Academy Library, which is SAL’s new online reading service of all legal texts published and made available by SAL. Complimentary access will be available from mid-September to 31 March 2022. Eligible members will have access to digital legal books from SAL’s Academy Publishing alongside other leading legal publishers like LexisNexis. The service will make it easy for the profession to enjoy high-quality legal literature anywhere and anytime. Details on how to access the service will be released in September.

3.    LAWNET: New subscribers[3] of LawNet will have a year of free basic subscription (worth $1,008) to the research portal including access to new Asian legal content at no extra charge. Details on how to access these services will be released in November.
